Hamlet Downs near Mt Field National Park, Maydena and the South West Wilderness area, offers 4 Star serviced apartments or self contained accommodation and fabulous meals.



If you are travelling between Hobart and Strahan or visa versa, Hamlet Downs is the perfect stopover to refresh you and your family or friends before proceeding. Relax, have a great meal using our own produce, enjoy a walk here or at the Russell Falls in the Mount Field National Park, or have a relaxing drink at the cafe next to the Tyenna River. Want some adventure, then we can book a trip to the fabulous lookout on top of the Eagles' Eyrie as part of the Maydena Adventure Hub activities or have a go on the Jet Boat on the Derwent River.



The restored farmhouse and adjoining additions offer some of the best Tasmanian accommodation experiences. Our 4 bedroom facility is nestled on 36 acres at Fentonbury Hamlet, a 60 minute drive from Hobart.



Guest bedrooms have ensuite or private bathrooms. There are no internal shared facilities and each group enjoys their own private suite with separate lounge and dining areas for each suite. Start your day with continental or cooked breakfasts and enjoy dinner featuring our own seasonal produce. For something completely different, try our Greek dishes or better still have a Greek Feast with 3 courses of delicious authentic Mediterranean cuisine. Minimum of 2 persons and 24 hours notice required to prepare these special dishes.



Hair dryers, tv, cd and video players, electric blankets, tea and coffee making facilities are all provided.



Our gardens feature overflowing beds of cottage flowers intermingled with native plants and berry bushes. Walk along our 1.6 kilometre track to our orchard and a series of water ponds where you may see our wild platypus. Nocturnal wildlife is abundant with possums, echidnas, wallabies and bandicoots often seen. Bird watching is a must with over thirty types seen in summer.



The self contained facility encompasses the Bandicoot, Potaroo and Platypus rooms.



Local attractions include the Mount Field National Park and Russell Falls, the Styx Valley and the magnificent South West Wilderness Area.

Fentonbury is situated between the towns of Westerway and Ellendale.

Road Directions: A1 from Hobart to Granton, A10 to New Norfolk, B62 & B61 to Westerway, C608 to Fentonbury, 65km from Hobart, 1 hours drive.

We have road signs located at Westerway, the Lyell Highway between the towns of Ouse and Hamilton and also at Gully Road Fentonbury. We are situated 500 metres up Gully Road first property on the right.

Things To DoThings To Do

Ten minutes drive from Hamlet Downs is Mt Field National Park with the world famous Russell Falls. It is a park for all seasons featuring many short and long walks displaying great diversity as well as winter snow fields and the amazing Tarn Shelf with its many exhilarating walks.

For the licensed fishermen or for watersports, try the Tyenna river for trout fishing, canoeing and swimming.

Visit Something Wild wildlife sanctuary and view the local old Oust Houses where once beer hops were processed.

Attractions within 30 minutes drive include:

Maydena Adventure Hub for fabulous views at the Eagle's Eyrie or 4WD tours. The Styx valley near Maydena, home of world's largest hardwood trees. The Florentine Valley features many different attractions like Mt Tim Shea, the Growling Swallet and Wylds Craig. Lake Meadowbank on the Derwent River for salmon and trout. The Salmon Ponds at Plenty, an historic trout hatchery. Glen Clyde House, Hamilton one of Tasmania's premier craft galleries, licensed cafe and open garden. New Norfolk, the largest town in the Derwent Valley, offers history, antique shops, services and Jet Boat rides.

Attractions within 90 minute drive are:

Southwest National Park and Lake Pedder with its views and trout fishing. Hobart (Tasmania's capital), Historic Richmond (coal river valley & vineyards), Central lakes district (Lake St Clair National Park) and Bothwell, home of Australia's 1st golf course, are all within easy drive from Hamlet Downs.

Try the famous Salamanca markets most Saturdays at the Hobart waterfront. It is only an hours drive. It features craft and other wonderful items for sale.
