Settlers Motel has ZENBU Wireless Internet available to all units. Each unit has a telephone from which local, national and international calls can be made. Fax and copy facilities are available at the reception.

Check In Time is 2pm (earlier by prior arrangement). Check Out Time is 10am (later by prior arrangement - charges may apply).

Children and Extra Guests Details

We charge$17 each for extra adult guests and children aged 6th months and over.

Car Parking Details

There is off-street car parking directly outside each unit. We can also provide excellent off-street parking for boats and trailers.

Travel Directions

Travelling south on State Highway 1 we are 50 kilometres from Taupo on the corner of SH1 and Arahori Street.
Travelling north we are 63 kilometres from Waiouru on the right opposite Shell Service Station.
Approx 4 hours travelling time from either Auckland or Wellington. 1.5 hours from Rotorua Airport, 40 minutes from Taupo Airport.

Things To Do

Turangi is nestled between Tongariro National Park, Kaimanawa Forest Park and Lake Taupo and is a popular year round holiday destination. Whether your aim is to relax and chill-out or pursue a more active outdoor activity, Settlers Motel Turangi is the ideal location to base yourself.

Tramping & Walking:
Turangi has at its doorstep some of New Zealand's best walks that will suit all levels of fitness. The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is rated as one of New Zealand's best one day walks. The Kaimanawa Forest Park has walks from a few hours to 3 to 6 days. On Mt Pihanga's southern slope is Lake Rotopounamu which offers visitors a 2 hours forest walk around its shores. Turangi also has a number of easy walks along the banks of the Tongariro River. Settlers Motel can provide its guests with more detailed information.

Fishing:
The Turangi & Taupo region offers anglers some of the best trout fishing available in New Zealand, whether your style is fly-fishing, spinning or boat fishing there is a spot for you. The Tongariro River has year round trout fishing that will suit all types of anglers, winter spawning runs of Brown & Rainbow trout to summer fishing with dry-fly or small nymph. Boat fishing on Lake Taupo can be a family affair with great trout fishing to be had year round. Plus there is excellent fishing in the number of rivers, streams and lakes in & around the region. Settlers Motel can then Hot-Smoke your catch to enjoy during your stay with us or we can vacuum pack your smoked trout to take with you.

Skiing:
We are only 40 minutes from the Whakapapa Ski Fields on the slopes of Mt Ruapehu and 75 minutes to the Turoa Ski Field on the southern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. Settlers Motel Turangi is the ideal base for your skiing break. After a day on the slopes you can and relax in our hot spa before indulging yourself at one of the many fine restaurants in or around Turangi. We can have your ski-clothing dried in our dry-room overnight ready to take to the slopes next morning.

Turangi has a number of activities to suit all ages. Mini Golf, 18 hole Turangi Golf Course, bike riding and mountain bike riding, scenic flights around the mountains and Lake Taupo, Thermal Baths at Tokaanu, Hot Mud Pools at Tokaanu, Turangi's Genesis heated swimming pools, The National Trout Centre 5 minutes south of Turangi, White Water Rafting, Kayaking, Indoor Climbing Wall or simply relaxing reading a book.
