Next door to the Shell 24-hour service centre on the north side of Kempsey.

Located 428 km north-east of Sydney, We are a popular stopping point for people making the journey north or south along the Pacific Highway. Situated approximately halfway between Sydney and the Queensland border.

We are approximately 1 km north of the Post office. Coming from the north, it is the first motel on the left, next door to the Shell service station. From the south, it is the last motel on the right. look for the Shell Service station. Arriving by bus, the terminal is also next to the Shell service station. By train it is a short ride by taxi.

Located on the Macleay River, Kempsey is a large and important rural centre. The Kempsey shire is blessed with stunning natural beauty attracting many visitors and new residents alike. Kempsey is home to the famous Akubra Hat and is also the birthplace of Slim Dusty.

The town's tourist information office and historical museum are located in the Kempsey Cultural Centre ( Akubra video can be viewed here), which was designed by the famous architect Glenn Murcutt. It is a distinctive Australian building and is well worth stopping and inspecting. It is located in a pleasant, shady park at the southern end of town.

Local attractions include the Museum & settlers cottage, Angus McNeil glass negative collection, Wigay Cultural Park, art and craft galleries, , Euroka and Rudder Park Lookouts, Rudder and Riverside Park, heritage walks, freshwater fishing, canoeing and horse riding.


15 km northeast of the Kempsey is Gladstone, which is recognised as a historic village. Its attractions include The Old Lodge Pottery, Dark water House which sells handicrafts and morning and afternoon teas and the Gladstone Hotel which claims to have the best beer on the Macleay River. Gladstone has a street named Memorial Avenue where there are markers beside all the trees recording the men from the village who were killed in World War II.
