Travel Directions
Take the South Eastern Freeway from Adelaide and leave at the Hahndorf exit. Proceed on Main Road until you reach the Echunga Road (Pine Avenue). Turn right, pass under freeway and turn right at Von Doussa Road. Proceed up Von Doussa to the T-junction and turn left into Fairview Road. Property is 400 metres on the right from the T junction.
Things To Do
The Adelaide Hills is one of South Australia¿s favourite tourist destinations and no town is more popular than the historic village of Hahndorf. This early German settlement retains much of the charm and atmosphere associated with a bygone era. The German influence can be seen in the shops and galleries, the architecture of the buildings and churches, and of course in the cuisine of the hotels, restaurants, 'bäckereien' and 'wursthäuser'. Fairview Ridge is within walking distance (1600 metres) of Hahndorf's main street. "The Cedars", former home of the famous painter Sir Hans Heysen can be visited daily. Throughout the year visitors have the opportunity to tour the house, garden and studio, and to walk around the property amongst the gums that featured in many of his water-colours. Pedestals located at various points allow you to view the scene, and at the same time study the picture he committed to 'canvas'. Sir Hans loved 'the hills', and his rare talent for capturing the essence and tranquility of the countryside is celebrated annually in early October for 10 days at the Heysen Festival in Hahndorf. The Adelaide Hills has gained international recognition for the quality of its wines. There are some excellent wineries close to Fairview Ridge where you may sample (and purchase) wines. A restaurant is also a good place to sample local vintages, and there is no shortage of high quality restaurants in Hahndorf and the neighbouring towns of Verdun, Stirling, Aldgate and Bridgewater; all within 10 minutes drive of your accommodation. For more casual dining there are a number of very competitively priced quality cafes. If you wish we can point out our favourite 'spots' to you.
